Staff focus: Tez Parkin

At Cepac we're incredibly proud of our people. This is one in a series of staff focus articles where we shine a light on the many faces who make up our team.

Tez tells us about the Doncaster site over the years and the strengths Cepac will take in to the future.

Can you describe your role at Cepac Doncaster?

I am the Estimator responsible for managing all our business quotations. I liaise very closely with sales in the first instance to ensure that our designers are fully briefed. This starts with enquiries for Point-of-Sale display units which are often full of detail. Our market is dynamic and fast moving and our aim is to provide a stream of new and innovative Point-of-Sale packaging.

My role at Cepac is often to give practical and creative shape to a marketing brief. We are a dynamic team and have years of experience, with everyone prepared to muck in. For this reason, my involvement frequently extends much further than estimating, although this is my primary responsibility.

What does your typical day look like at Cepac?

I like to be ‘first in’ and am at work by 7am so that I can take stock of our incoming enquiries. As our office fills up there is usually a sense of anticipation as customer quotations are converted into job sheets ready for ordering materials and then production.

We like a challenge and pride ourselves on the high standard of our customer response. This sometimes involves considerable head scratching although we work well as a team to make it happen. Typically, we respond to new enquiries within 24 to 48 hours.

What changes have you encountered over time?

I started straight from school in 1982 to operate a hand bench screen printer and graduated to a semi-automatic as the business just grew. Leading up to Cepac we experienced a number of takeovers during which time my own role has changed from Commercial Manager to Account Manager to Sales.

My own career has almost come full circle as I have gained considerable experience during changing times. I feel that my greatest strength is the experience gained whilst working across most departments.

What do you consider have been the standout events?

Cepac have not been scared to invest either in the latest digital printing or automated gluing where they have committed significant investment.

We have a dedicated workforce who work extremely hard and are motivated by our achievements. Last year was a great year when everything came together.

What have been the most exciting products and projects with which you have been involved?

We have built a strong reputation for capacious weight bearing units which are fully stocked and seem almost to defy gravity through the use of ingenious design using reinforced corrugated which is also environmentally friendly and fully recyclable.

Last year we won the UK Packaging POPAI award (Check) for a four-sided display unit for Campo Viejo. This looks really impressive with respect to artwork, design and sheer visual impact.

What do you consider that Cepac has done particularly well?

Obviously, capital investment has been outstanding where there is true commitment to support innovation and new technology.

Cepac has a level of organisation extending from HR to IT. From my experience everybody is approachable and there is always somebody to talk to.
